Created Worlds: What Created Worlds Do To Us

Someones environment is essentially their world and like it or not, people are products of their environment. Although, that is not to say people are exact copies of their environment. In essence, a person's environment affects everything about them. Factors of environmental (world) influences include parents, media, location in which we grew up, country, and climate.

As a result of being exposed to our parents a multitude of times since birth, becoming them (on some level) is the inevitable. We're predisposed to their habits, ideals, and opinions without any objection. Parents establish our world from the time of conception will when we leave their house and stop feeding off their money.

Unfortunately, the media has a propensity to influence a persons world negatively. To illustrate, majority of advertisements for beauty products or clothes ONLY feature models with clear skin and skinny/muscular bodies; while in reality, majority of people do not look like that. As a result of these advertisements, men and women are starving themselves to points of lethal extremity. Not to mention, with more than half of those same advertisements, the models are photo-shopped: they're not even real people. Hence, harming their bodies and perception of reality (their minds).

The location in which we grow up influences us in a lot in our motives. Someone growing up on the south side of Chicago is not likely to have the same motives of someone growing up in the Northshore. Another example, a person growing up in a native village in Africa will not have the same motives as a person growing up in New York City.

A country is a world of itself due to the variance between each country. That being said, people of one country vary from a person of another country in respect to every avenue of life. For example, in Israel after a person has completed high school and turned 18, they are required to serve in the army. Talk toto an Israeli about their willingness to enlist and you'll be astounded by their sense of patriotism. Israeli's are proud to serve their country and look forward to doing it. Being in the service immediately following high school provides a sense of discipline, courage, and gratitude that Americans, for instance, lack. Unlike many Israeli's, many Americans do not feel obliged to their country (lack of patriotism) and often times take college immediately following high school for granted.

The climate in which people grow up influences their world more than we realize. For instances, some climates are warm and fertile and some are snowy and mountainous. The relevance: both climates are a potentially revenue producing environment (warm weather/fertile soil leads to year round farming and snowy-mountainous terrain leads to snow-sporting location. Both, which can make a persons world financial stable). In addition, people who live in warm/sunny climates tend to be happier than people living in cloudy/grey areas (these environments often times contribute to depressing a person).

In summary, the worlds in which we live in and or grow up in are the premise of the foundation that we call ourselves. If you think about it (based on what is discussed above), we are not very original at all. We're all just products of our environment.

Film Noir: L.A. Confidential and Double Indemnity

This shot is taken moments before Bud White and Lynn Bracken sleep together for the first time and embark on their love affair. The feeling derived from this shot is one of innocence, which is ironic because of what is about to happen and the due to Lynn Bracken's profession. The white-creamy colors in the background add a certain softness associated with innocence. In addition, the small plants illustrate innocence because they appear to be babies and babies are innocent. Although the titles of the books and magazines on the nightstand are not legible or visible, the reading material even being there tells us about Lynn's character. The reading the material on the nightstand suggests a certain amount of sophistication in Lynn's character. As well as, illustrating Lynn's yearning to acquire knowledge outside the world she is familiar with. The perfume to the left of the books could elude to Lynn's sensual side because perfume can be a tool of seduction.

The feeling of this shot is ominous emphasized by the two silhouettes of men in the window of the door and the sweat and blood upon Walter. I would consider Walter in the foreground, seeing as though he closer to where the camera would be filming than Keys. Based on Keys' office, one can assume he is rather analytical. For instance, the graph on the wall shows that Keys is a man of numbers. Meaning he uses statistics to help answer his questions. Keys is also organized. This can be inferred based on his file cabinets and binders in the background and the rather neatness of his desk. The fan, chair, and water distributor suggest that Keys caters to his guests/clients by providing comfort.

According to my poorly drawn lines following the rule of thirds, the viewers eye is drawn to Anderton and Witwer, with Fletcher in the center. Other than the rule of thirds, the color contrast and lighting amongst the characters draws the viewers eye. To illustrate, Fletcher is nearly blacked out so naturally our eyes gravitate towards the whiteness of Witwer's collared shirt and the relatively paleness of Anderton's skin.
Although Witwer is foregrounded, he appears backgrounded due to the intensity between Anderton and Fletcher. In addition, Witwer was strategically placed in the center of Anderton and Fletcher because he is the mediator and/or common ground between the two other gentlemen. The overall background (the screen used in Pre-crime) hold little significance in the shot, hence why it is the background. The placement of the characters is most important because it illustrates the placement of power amongst the characters.
Witwer is practically blacked out, so he is not spot lighted in this shot. On the contrary, if you look closely: a clear left and right side of the shot exists based off lighting. The right side of the shot where Fletcher stands consists of a portion distinct blackness. This blackness is symbolic in the face-off above, because Fletcher is out to destroy Anderton. While on the left side, Anderton lacks pure blackness and a lighter color spectrum exists. This indicates Anderton's good intentions.
The shot above is a medium close up shot (MCU), seeing as though it portraits the characters from the chest up. By shooting the characters from the chest up in this shot, we can evaluate their posture more thoroughly. It can be noted that neither Anderton nor Fletcher seem cowardly or timid based on their posture.
In terms of props and location, the the setting is rather bleak. The depth of the shot stems from the lighting, color contrast, and placement of characters. On the contrary, the clothing interprets the characters social status. For instance, Fletcher wears a white collared shirt, indicating he is a man of business and that he is rather collegiate. This shot depicts the foreshadowing in reference to the conflict amongst the characters.
